All of us remember the days of the padlock. When they were first offered, they presented a good way to keep your belongings safe. They were typical with lockers at school, with just about every locker having one. Padlocks were all to easy to open as well; all you needed was the combination. As soon as you had the combination, all it took was 3 clockwise turns, two counterclockwise, and once last clockwise turn to hit the final number and open the padlock.
Even though the combination padlock was widely used for it is time, people quickly began to realize what happened when they forgot the combination. Combination padlocks were great for those who had a sharp memory although sooner or later forgetting the combination was bound to happen. As soon as the combination had been lost, a pair of bolt cutters would be needed in order to cut the lock.
Shortly after the combination padlock, emerged the padlocks of today – lock and key. Padlocks that required a key were a lot easier to use, requiring no combination. All you had to do was keep the key with you at all times and you had no worries about the padlock. If you wound up losing the key nevertheless, you would need to cut the lock. To prevent losing the key, a lot of people chose to put the padlock key on their key ring or wear it on a necklace around their neck.
The most used type of padlock today is Master Lock. The Master Lock brand has been around for generations, proving to be the most difficult kind of lock to break. It is been well proven and well documented that guns can’t harm Master Locks. Even when you shoot the lock dead on with a shotgun or handgun, the lock won’t give. Master Locks are made of solid high grade steel and will not give way to some shots from a gun. Although they may sustain damage from the blast, they will still be there as soon as the shooting has stopped – protecting what you have them locked to.
Although Master Locks are the most widely used and most common type of padlock, there are other types available as well. Multi-Lock, Medeco, and KW are all excellent examples of quality padlocks. These locks feature unique and innovative designs that are near impossible for robbers to remove . You can make use of them around the house to keep doors locked, safes locked, cabinets locked, and virtually anything else which contains your possessions.
The best thing regarding padlocks is the fact that they’re very affordable. You can find them in nearly any department or hardware store. You are able to shop online as well, and compare what each company lock will offer you. The next time you need to lock up something and you need a small lock – you can depend on one of the numerous padlocks to give you the protection and safety you need.

Many different companies offer burglar alarm systems but certain companies seem to dominate the market. Both ADT Home Security and Brinks Home Security, are well known and have been in business for many years. Both companies offer excellent security systems that will satisfy any homeowner.
More people these days are turning to a burglar alarm system to protect themselves, their family, and their belongings. The right alarm system, coupled with some good spotlights and common sense modifications to your property can go a long way toward scaring off any would-be intruders. When a thief sees the keypad of the burglar alarm system, he’s more likely to move to the next target; even if you have some nice things inside your home, why risk it when someone down the street or a few blocks over has the same home electronics that you do but without any type of burglar alarm system protecting it?
If you personally are looking into burglar alarm systems, what are some things you should be keeping in mind for your selection? How do you know which one is the best for you, and what features you need versus which ones are just a waste of money? Obviously the answer will be different for everyone, but let’s take a closer look at how burglar alarm systems operate and what they offer, and then maybe you can make the best decision for you and your family.
But do you know the number one mistake most homeowners make with their burglar alarm systems? You’d be surprised at what it is; most people are. It has nothing to do with the installation or setup. Most these days feel that it’s worth paying a professional to do the installation for them; with many systems, the installation is included or is just a few dollars more. Rather than trying to mess with the wiring or electrical or programming of their burglar alarm system, homeowners would rather than the installer come in and get it running for them; this can be a wise choice if you’re not familiar with electronics.
If you have reason to suspect that someone is stealing from you, perhaps a housekeeper or contractor or neighbor, you would choose the burglar alarm systems that include closed circuit cameras so that you can catch this person in the act. You might also consider this if you suspect abuse on the part of your child’s babysitter or the person that takes care of an elderly relative in your home. These types of burglar alarm systems are hooked up through a wire or send a wireless signal to a VCR or DVR, and this way you have a videotape or DVD that you can present to the police or in court.
But there is another reason why many neglect using it, and that’s because they’re afraid of setting it off accidentally. Like the smoke detector that sounds just because you’re cooking bacon, homeowners are afraid of doing
something wrong or negligent and causing the burglar alarm system to sound for no reason. They fear the embarrassment that would cause with neighbors and police.
A burglar alarm system is much like a seatbelt in the car; it will only protect you if you use it. While false alarms or user error does sometimes happen, it’s usually very rare. So don’t let fear keep you from using your own burglar alarm system.

Brinks Home Security | 5 Excellent Reasons Why I Chose Brinks
All too often I am asked whether or not I trust and/or like Brinks Home Security and why. Well, I usually give an answer that is something along the lines of “yeah, I’d use them”, but I never really had solid reasons for my trust. So, after some sitting, some thinking, and some internet searching, I came up with 5 good reasons why I would go with Brinks Home Security.
1) Experience
They have been providing home security for more than 30 years! Since home security is completely dependant on the safety aspect, experience is absolutely key. They have had time to make any mistakes that could be made by such a company and fix all of them. Thanks to their experience, they just don’t make mistakes. A new, inexperienced company, on the other hand, is much more likely to make a mistake that could cost you your safety. Your safety is simply too important to justify any unnecessary risk.
2) Service
They have true 24 hour service all around! Of course, they have 24 hour monitoring, that’s to be expected from any home security company, but Brinks Home Security accepts calls for support 24 hours a day! That means that if something goes wrong with my system, they will help me fix it even if it happens to be 3 am. They make their customers THE top priority, even over sleep!
3) Awards
So, about that service thing you just read about; you remember, right? Well, said service is VERY good, good enough to win awards! J.D. Powers and Associates have given Brinks Home Security an award for “An Outstanding Customer Service Experience” six years in a row. Not to mention that Brinks Home Security also got a “Best Buy” award from Consumer Digest for its standard security system! Awards are certainly some strong evidence.
4) Ease of Use
All other keypads that I have used are more difficult than Brinks’ keypad. It’s easy to turn off when you need to, and it’s even easier to turn on. Additionally, there are immediate alarm buttons on the keypad that allow me to directly sound the alarm and contact monitoring personnel in the event of an emergency. It’s all about safety, and Brinks Home Security has it in spades!
5) Professional
Their entire staff is very professional. All of them are true Brinks employees who live and work in the United States. Not outsourced foreign workers with heavy Indian accents. Which is, of course, when you would need to understand the person on the other side of the line the most. Brinks employees have licenses for the work that they do, they go through background checks, and they go through drug testing; all to insure that they will help you correctly when you need it the most.
Those are more than enough reasons for me to choose Brinks Home Security. The choice is still yours, though. Go with Brinks, or just “some other guy”?
